On the day of your appointment, you will collect a fasting saliva cortisol sample at home first thing in the morning before eating, drinking (this includes coffee or tea), smoking, or using any oral hygiene products. You must fast for at least 8 hours before collecting the saliva sample, which is why it is optimal to collect the sample when you first wake up. Rinse mouth with water, then wait 5 minutes after rinse to start collection. Follow the Saliva Collection Instructions included in your kit for further collection details. You only need one saliva sample. We have provided two in case there is a problem with the first sample.
Go in-person to the Quest Diagnostic Lab you have selected BEFORE EATING BREAKFAST (that includes NO coffee/tea) for your fasting (please fast for at least 8 hours) blood draw. Bring with you your saliva cortisol collection tube and the Quest Order Form that has both the order for the saliva cortisol test and the blood test on it.
